Miss Metal
by Philippe on Jul.09, 2009, under People
When I’ve spotted Damla I knew I wanted her in front of my camera. I always wanted a goth/metal/alternative girl to pose for me.
I’m still not happy though, the next one needs to be covered in tattoos.
Do you know somebody (I prefer without stars in the face) ? Send her to me !

Feathers
by Philippe on Jul.08, 2009, under People
Just look at this picture.

Yes, the make-up consists of feathers.
Some people have lots of patience putting the feathers one by one on the models face. I’m not one of them.
I was the lazy photographer who only had to push the button of the camera while the model and the make-up artist (lovely Sofie) did all the hard work.
Sometimes life isn’t fair.

More girls …
by Philippe on Jul.07, 2009, under People
Again some examples of the lovely lasolite hilite background. I kinda like the way you can make the background disappear. I still struggle with the floor (perhaps that’s why you can’t see it here) because it stays slightly grey. I know with a couple of extra lights, it would be solved swiftly but I don’t think my bank will give me more money to buy them.

These girls are added to my portfolio.
More of Annaïck

I had (again) the pleasure of working with Annaïck. Limited to one location, I tried different light setups and even my ringflash.

Brugge Part 1
by Philippe on Jun.21, 2009, under Day To Day
I went to Brugge to take some pictures of a colleague of mine who was participating in a 1/4 triathlon.
Since I didn’t know where I could get a decent viewing point for this triathlon, I decided that a quick walk through Brugge would be the best way to get acquainted to the city.
Of course I had to take some of those typical Brugge photos.

Brugge Part 2 : Triathlon
by Philippe on Jun.21, 2009, under Day To Day
So the main reason for my visit to Brugge , the 1/4 triathlon.
I wanted to get some pictures of a colleague of mine participating in the event. The idea was to get at least one while he was swimming, one or 2 on his bike an a number of photo while he was running.
Imagine a steady stream of swimmers, most of them in a black wetsuit (he also)…NONE of them with a number visible.
It was quite hopeless to find him in this pack (2 hours, more than 2000 people !). So I quickly left the swimming part of the triathlon and tried my luck with the bicycles.
Luckily I found my mark ….

More of Caroline
by Philippe on May.24, 2009, under People
I’ve added some extra pictures of Caroline to my portfolio.
Since then I’m hooked on off camera flash.

On my wish list are a few pocketwizard triggers and a new softbox for my canon flash. Let the fun begin !
Biker Chick
by Philippe on May.10, 2009, under People
Or perhaps better : moped girl !
She had a new moped, I had new toys to play with (an off camera flash) so what better to meet up and take some pictures ?
I wanted a tough girl standing in front of her moped, with a dark sinister environment.

I like the picture but I think it would have been even better with a reflection screen on the right to bring some light on the left leg.
Also next time, I’m not going to park my car nearby. People are looking at you when you are photographing in the street with a big shoot through umbrella. And this isn’t a good thing when they are driving and almost hitting your car !
This image belongs to my portfolio. Check it out if you want to see more.
Grandmaster Flash @ Depot
by Philippe on May.10, 2009, under Events
I had a duo-ticket for US3 and Grandmaster Flash. But sadly the concert of Grand Master Flash was disappointing too. A concert that is announced as “Hip hop legend Grandmaster Flash is back ! He’s gonna promote his first new album in 20 years. He worked with Q-Tip, KRS-One, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg on this album”
So, when you would read this, what would you expect ? I guess some hip hop ? To my surprise it was a dj-set (imagine stuff like nirvana “team spirit” mixed with daftpunk “around the world”). Another difference between the USA and Belgium is that in Belgian clubs the dj doesn’t shout every 20 seconds “raise your hands, I can’t see the hands”.
After taking a few pictures of Grandmaster Flash behind his turntables I was feeling a bit bored an went to the bar.
