Cap Blanc Nez
by Philippe on Apr.27, 2009, under Events
Because it was raining on a Sunday and wasn’t really in the mood to stay indoors, I decided to drive to Cap Blanc Nez. Being just next to Calais it’s really close to home but you immediately feel like you’re on holiday. I want to return there with a model for a model shoot ! You have the cliffs, the beach, the big rocks, the scenery…everything you can possible want !

Lasolite Hilite test
by Philippe on Apr.26, 2009, under Day To Day
A while ago I purchased a lasolite HiLite background. It’s actually a bit more than just a background. It enables you ‘High Key’ photography on location and in restrictive spaces. By rear lighting the white background itself there is no longer a need to use a background light behind the subject. Furthermore, because the background is actually illuminated it means the subject can stand virtually right in front of it without casting a shadow. The HiLite backgrounds also works as a large rear softbox and illuminates the subject as well, meaning you can use just one other flash head to light the subject from the front. What’s more, the whole thing is collapsible(after struggling more than 2 hours to get that thing in the cover again).
I only used it once but I think I’m gonna use it in the future quite often !

Slowing down
by Philippe on Apr.20, 2009, under Day To Day
Photographing at night, with long shuttertime, on a tripod, I don’t know why I never tried it because I like the photos most of the time.
One of the reasons I joined a photography class was that I was obligated to do stuff I never would do. Night photography is one of those things.
I’m glad they made me do it …
Another assignment
by Philippe on Apr.20, 2009, under Day To Day
One of the assignments for this year sounds easy but getting a decent photo isn’t.
Either lines themselves should make a visual interesting photo OR how surfaces get divided in different planes.
Confused ? I was too when I walked around in Leuven with my camera, trying to get the pictures for the assignment but without a clue what I was supposed to photograph.

Paparazzi Time
by Philippe on Apr.19, 2009, under People
Another 600mm example. I pity the fools who has to carry this lens all day.
But when I see the results this lens delivers, I understand why.

Wanted some extra zoomrange
by Philippe on Apr.19, 2009, under Day To Day
I recently purchased a new telelens. The remarkable canon 600mm. It’s all what I expected and some more… The build quality is very, very good. The image quality is even better. You only have to get used to people staring at you when you carry the big beast around.
Here are some examples when I tried this lens the first time (a bit foolishly hand-held).

Big set ?
by Philippe on Apr.19, 2009, under Day To Day
You don’t need a big set for an interesting photo. I took a picture of a scale model used by a local singer for his cd booklet.
The actual size of this scale model is only 30 cm’s wide.

Movement
by Philippe on Apr.19, 2009, under Day To Day
One of the mandatory assignments before I could join a digital photography class @ CVO Leuven, was movement.
Here are the 3 pictures that I submitted for this assignment
With my head in the clouds
by Philippe on Apr.04, 2009, under Day To Day
When you have the chance to take pictures on an airplane, the first thing that pops into your mind is probably “how am I gonna be able to get a decent picture through this scratched window??”
I did not expect to have even one decent picture when I saw the state of the window (on both occasions) : scratches, strange colors, image deformation, …
I had to rely on my raw convertor to sort the white balance out but other modifications weren’t necessary.
When you look closely, you can even see my hometown on one of the photos.

Knokke in the winter
by Philippe on Apr.03, 2009, under Day To Day
Knokke in the winter is nice, but I think I’m gonna revisit it when it’s a bit warmer.
Minutes after arriving on the beach, it started raining. Better luck next time..
