Blaasveld .. testing the new telelens on animals.
by Philippe on Nov.09, 2009, under Day To Day
Same sunny day, some lens to test but this time on animals. I really like the results but I still have a lot to learn.
So feel free to give me clues how to learn the art of nature photography!

Blaasveld .. testing the new telelens on people.
by Philippe on Nov.09, 2009, under Day To Day, People
A sunny day, a new telelens, people enjoying the warm weather… sometimes it’s rather easy to enjoy a day off.
I was just testing the lens, nothing fancy. Just to get a feel on how the lens was performing, how to deal with the weight of the glass.

Leuven by night

Nothing special, just an impression of Leuven by night, recorded in september
Leuven, just another sunday …
by Philippe on Sep.22, 2009, under Day To Day, Events
Just another lazy Sunday in Leuven but with numerous things to do : opening of a new museum, a fair, street artists, art in the park, etc.
So the ideal situation for some (and some not so) candid photos of people enjoying one of the last warm sunny days of the year. I wish there were more days like this…..

Garden safari
by Philippe on Aug.02, 2009, under Day To Day
Nothing to do, too warm in the city and no food in the fridge. A visit to my parents was sounding a good idea !
I already had purchased the canon MP-E 65 lens a few months ago (almost a year) but besides a small test to see it was functioning, it stayed in my camera bag. Because I knew my parents were away for another hour, I thought it was a good idea to test it out on some stuff in their garden. If you are not familiar with this lens, it’s a 65mm dedicated macrolens. A normal macro lens will project a subject life-size on a full frame sensor(35m). This lens can magnify the subject until 5 x life-size. But it has also a few downsides : no auto-focus, no image stabilisation, depth of field is measures in tenths of a millimeter(F16 with 5 times magnification, the depth of field is 0.05mm) and of course like all my other toys, quite expensive.

Brugge Part 1
by Philippe on Jun.21, 2009, under Day To Day
I went to Brugge to take some pictures of a colleague of mine who was participating in a 1/4 triathlon.
Since I didn’t know where I could get a decent viewing point for this triathlon, I decided that a quick walk through Brugge would be the best way to get acquainted to the city.
Of course I had to take some of those typical Brugge photos.

Brugge Part 2 : Triathlon
by Philippe on Jun.21, 2009, under Day To Day
So the main reason for my visit to Brugge , the 1/4 triathlon.
I wanted to get some pictures of a colleague of mine participating in the event. The idea was to get at least one while he was swimming, one or 2 on his bike an a number of photo while he was running.
Imagine a steady stream of swimmers, most of them in a black wetsuit (he also)…NONE of them with a number visible.
It was quite hopeless to find him in this pack (2 hours, more than 2000 people !). So I quickly left the swimming part of the triathlon and tried my luck with the bicycles.
Luckily I found my mark ….

Lasolite Hilite test
by Philippe on Apr.26, 2009, under Day To Day
A while ago I purchased a lasolite HiLite background. It’s actually a bit more than just a background. It enables you ‘High Key’ photography on location and in restrictive spaces. By rear lighting the white background itself there is no longer a need to use a background light behind the subject. Furthermore, because the background is actually illuminated it means the subject can stand virtually right in front of it without casting a shadow. The HiLite backgrounds also works as a large rear softbox and illuminates the subject as well, meaning you can use just one other flash head to light the subject from the front. What’s more, the whole thing is collapsible(after struggling more than 2 hours to get that thing in the cover again).
I only used it once but I think I’m gonna use it in the future quite often !

Slowing down
by Philippe on Apr.20, 2009, under Day To Day
Photographing at night, with long shuttertime, on a tripod, I don’t know why I never tried it because I like the photos most of the time.
One of the reasons I joined a photography class was that I was obligated to do stuff I never would do. Night photography is one of those things.
I’m glad they made me do it …
